Anson Resources Ltd has advanced its lithium project by refining lithium chloride with a successful polishing process that removes key contaminants. This breakthrough, trialed in its USA Innovation Center, brings the company closer to producing high-quality, battery-grade lithium carbonate, enhancing its potential in the burgeoning energy market.
Anson Resources Ltd has advanced its lithium processing efforts at its Green River Lithium Project in southeastern Utah by successfully refining its highly purified lithium chloride solution. The company has implemented a “polishing” stage—a critical step in its downstream processing—which further eliminates minor contaminants that remain following the initial Direct Lithium Extraction carried out through a pilot plant. The advanced process, developed at a U.S.-based Lithium Innovation Center, employs a series of off-the-shelf technologies including nanofiltration, reverse osmosis, and ion exchange systems to clean the eluate before it undergoes final evaporation and crystallization into lithium carbonate.
The technical data provided indicates that the “polishing” process effectively reduces contaminants such as barium, calcium, potassium, magnesium, silicon, copper, and zinc. For instance, barium levels declined from 11.68 to 0.56 with a rejection rate of 96.3 percent, while contaminants like calcium, copper, and zinc were entirely removed. The polished lithium chloride eluate, produced at a rate of around 43,500 gallons from the pilot plant, is currently being concentrated further, paving the way for subsequent evaporation and carbonation steps that aim to yield battery grade lithium carbonate.
This achievement marks an important operational milestone that could lower both capital and operating expenses for the eventual lithium carbonate production facility. Anson Resources Ltd, through its wholly owned subsidiary Blackstone Minerals NV LLC, is focused on turning its promising lithium projects into significant sources of battery material for the new energy and technology markets.
Market sentiment may lean bullish as the advancement in lithium processing technology has the potential to improve product quality and reduce production costs, enhancing the company’s competitive edge in a growing market for lithium carbonate. Conversely, a bearish viewpoint might stress that while the results from the “polishing” program are promising, the operation is still progressing through pilot and scale-up stages, with final production and market integration yet to be fully realized.
