Yandal Resources Limited has launched a 12,500m air‐core drilling program targeting promising gold mineralisation in Western Australia’s Caladan fold. With assay results expected by August, the campaign could reveal significant potential at the greenfield Arrakis Prospect, sparking interest for long-term exploration growth.
Yandal Resources Limited has initiated a large-scale air‐core drilling program targeting its Caladan area in the Northeastern Goldfields of Western Australia. The program is aimed at exploring a significant 8km by 3km fold structure, truncated to the southwest by the Idaho Shear Zone—a geological setting that shares similarities with renowned gold districts such as those in the Kalgoorlie region. The drilling program will test approximately 6.4km of strike length across ten drill lines, including eight lines spaced 800m apart and two additional lines at 400m spacing along the north and south of the previously drilled Arrakis Prospect.
The technical design of the program features an initial 200m hole spacing, with denser spacing of 100m to 50m along key structures and within the CAL-01 regolith anomaly, which extends for 3km. Early air-core and reverse circulation drilling have confirmed primary gold mineralisation associated with the Arrakis Prospect. Notable drill intercepts include an 11m interval grading 1.7 g/t Au, and subsequent refined RC drilling further outlined the geometry of mineralisation within a deformed mafic host. Routine bottom-of-hole multi-element sampling will accompany the planned 12,500m drilling with an average depth of 100m per hole, and all holes will be positioned at a -60° angle to the southwest. Assay outcomes are expected from early July through the end of August, with final results anticipated before the close of the September quarter.
The firm’s strategy is bolstered by a strong cash position and a busy exploration schedule for 2025. In addition to the completion of the Caladan drilling campaign within four to six weeks, Yandal Resources Limited has plans to commence an air-core program on the New England Granite following the required heritage surveys. Historical data, including a 1995 drilling campaign and recent gravity surveys conducted in 2024, have helped shape the current exploration focus on the Caladan Fold and its associated low-level regolith anomalies.
From a market sentiment perspective, the news carries bullish undertones due to the comprehensive scale of the drilling program, the technical validation of primary mineralisation, and the strategic importance of the Caladan target area within the company’s portfolio. Investors may view this as a significant greenfield opportunity with the potential for multiple mineralised structures, suggesting strong growth prospects. However, a bearish perspective might highlight the inherent exploration risks, including the challenges presented by shallow transported cover and the historical underperformance of broad-spaced drilling programs in delineating true mineralisation. Overall, the ongoing drilling results and upcoming assay outcomes will be key indicators for assessing the project’s future potential.
