Rimfire Pacific Mining Limited reports strong scandium intercepts from its Currajong drill program, defining a 1.7km trend of high-grade zones. Maiden resource estimates are expected soon—an encouraging development amid tightening global scandium supply.
Rimfire Pacific Mining Limited has released a comprehensive update on its first-ever scandium‐focused air core drill program at the Currajong Scandium Prospect in the Fifield District, central New South Wales. The latest assay results, spanning 84 outlying drill holes over a 1.7-kilometre strike length, show several strong scandium intercepts. Highlights include intervals such as 15 metres at 280 parts per million scandium (429 ppm scandium oxide) with a sub‐interval of 10 metres at 321 ppm scandium, and additional similar high-grade intercepts from holes FI2825, FI2781, FI2768, and FI2837. Approximately 25% of the 200 air core holes ended in anomalous scandium values, indicating the potential to widen intersections if drilling extends further.
The drill program was carried out on a grid pattern with 50–100 metre spacing over key magnetic anomalies that define the Currajong Ultramafic Belt. These intercepts confirm that scandium mineralisation is hosted in a flat, weathered zone (laterite to lower saprolite) over ultramafic pyroxenite rocks that are widely recognised as primary scandium source rocks across the region. All drilling was carefully logged, with core samples analyzed by industry-standard laboratory techniques using multielement XRF analysis, and the data is being compiled by an external consultancy for a maiden scandium mineral resource estimate expected in September 2025.
The company’s Managing Director highlighted that the promising drill results come at a time when global scandium supply is under pressure from recent export restrictions imposed by China. This supply challenge is being addressed by initiatives such as a US Department of Defense investment in scandium production, which underscores the strategic importance of securing alternative, long-term sources. The Currajong prospect, which forms part of the company’s Avondale Project under an earn-in agreement with Golden Plains Resources Pty Ltd, is positioned to become a secure and low-risk supplier for the metal.
From a market sentiment perspective, the news is bullish. The strong assay returns, the significant corridor of scandium mineralisation defined over a 1.7-kilometre strike, and the potential for lateral extensions all suggest a high upside, supported by global supply constraints and strategic investments in scandium production. However, there is also a bearish element, as the project remains at an early exploration stage; uncertainties persist regarding the true scale and economic viability of the deposit until the forthcoming resource estimate is completed. Investors should weigh the promising technical results against the inherent risks of early-stage exploration projects.
