QPM Energy Limited announces that its Townsville Power Station has successfully completed extended full load runs, generating 4,708 MWh for the National Electricity Market. Final commissioning is underway, positioning the station to optimize operations with robust gas storage in the near term.
QPM Energy Limited provided an operational update on the commissioning of the Townsville Power Station. Since its previous communication on 23 July 2025, the Company has successfully conducted extended runs of its gas turbine and generator at full load. During three consecutive test runs from 26 to 28 July, a total of 4,708 MWh of energy was generated and dispatched into the National Electricity Market before transmission losses were taken into account.
The message noted that Ratch Australia Corporation is expected to complete the final commissioning activities in the coming days, after which dispatch control will be transferred to QPM Energy Limited under a new Dispatch Agreement. Concurrently, the commencement of a new gas transportation and storage agreement with North Queensland Gas Pipeline is anticipated. The facility’s ability to draw on a substantial volume of stored gas and ongoing field production is expected to enable it to operate for extended periods, capitalizing on favorable market pricing.
The sentiment from this development is mixed. On the bullish side, the successful full-load operations and strategic agreements enhance market confidence in the power station’s near-term performance and operational flexibility. Conversely, the forward-looking nature of the announcement and the potential execution risks involved in commissioning projects may prompt caution among investors wary of market uncertainties.
