Lotus Resources Limited is nearing production at its Kayelekera uranium project in Malawi. A crucial mill refurbishment is complete, and commissioning is progressing well, with first uranium output expected this quarter—all while the company remains well-capitalized.
Lotus Resources Limited has reached a significant milestone at its Kayelekera Uranium Project in Malawi as process plant refurbishment nears completion. The company confirmed that the SAG mill refurbishment has been successfully completed, with grinding media loaded and the mill restarted. During the current commissioning phase, mineralised waste is being used to verify plant performance before switching to ore feed. This process ensures that key circuits—including crushing, grinding, pre-leach, and leach—are operating correctly ahead of the first production of uranium oxide (U3O8) later this quarter.
The commissioning progress extends beyond the SAG mill, with simultaneous efforts in the elution, precipitation, drying, and packaging areas. Lotus Resources’ Managing Director, Greg Bittar, emphasized that restarting the mill is a critical achievement and underlined the company’s proactive engagement with the Malawi government to align on production plans. With a robust cash position of approximately A$77.3 million (unaudited) at the end of June and no debt drawn, the firm appears well-prepared to transition to full-scale uranium production in the coming months.
From a market sentiment perspective, the update is largely bullish. The successful restart of a key processing component and the forward progress on additional circuits signal a strong near-term outlook for production, likely to instill confidence among investors and stakeholders. The ability to commence first production within the quarter, coupled with the secure financial backing, supports a positive view of the project’s prospects. However, for those with a more cautious outlook, the initial phase of feed testing using mineralised waste may serve as a reminder that operational risks persist until sustained ore performance is confirmed. Overall, the announcement positions Lotus Resources Limited on a path toward ramping up production while maintaining a stable financial foundation.
