Firetail Resources Limited has kicked off its maiden exploration program in Nevada at the high-grade Excelsior Gold Project. Fieldwork and 3D surveys target six promising sites to refine drill locations and potentially expand significant gold mineralisation.
Firetail Resources Limited has launched an ambitious field exploration campaign at its Excelsior Gold Project in Nevada, USA, marking a pivotal step in evaluating a high-grade gold system within the renowned Walker Lane Trend. Field teams have commenced detailed mapping and sampling across six priority targets that align with historical mining trends—featuring shafts, pits, and trenches with no prior documented sampling—and preparations are underway for the initial diamond drilling program set to begin in August. The project builds on a legacy of significant production, including previous work at the Buster Mine where 19,200 ounces of gold were produced at an average grade of 41 g/t.
The exploration strategy involves a comprehensive approach combining geochemical sampling, detailed structural mapping, and geophysical reprocessing to refine drill-hole locations for the maiden diamond drilling. This drilling is anticipated to deliver crucial geological, geotechnical, petrophysical, and metallurgical insights, by testing thick, high-grade intercepts reported in earlier results—such as 51.8 metres at 4.00 g/t Au and other promising intercepts indicating potential for expanding the known mineralisation envelope. In parallel to the gold exploration program in Nevada, Firetail is advancing geophysical testing at its Skyline Copper Project in Newfoundland, Canada. A 3D induced polarization survey aims to delineate zones of low resistivity and high chargeability to map buried sulphide mineralisation, while an extended high-resolution magnetic survey will cover a larger portion of the ophiolite sequence. Additionally, the company is moving towards 100% ownership of the Picha and Charaque Projects in Peru following its joint venture partner’s decision to convert their equity into a net smelter royalty, positioning Firetail to explore significant porphyry copper opportunities in the region.
Managing Director Glenn Poole expressed enthusiasm for the systematic evaluation underway, highlighting that early-phase diamond drilling is vital for understanding the structural controls and mineral characteristics of the Excelsior system. The program is designed not only to confirm the location of high-grade mineralisation but also to provide critical data that will influence subsequent reverse circulation drilling aimed at both extending the mineral resource and enhancing its definition.
