DeSoto Resources Limited has begun diamond drilling at its Spectrum REE-Au-Cu Project in the Northern Territory. The fully permitted 20‐hole program targets both geophysical anomalies and historic rare earth discoveries, marking an exciting expansion in exploration across continents that could unlock significant mineral potential.

DeSoto Resources Limited has announced that drilling has begun at its Spectrum REE-Au-Cu Project, located approximately 150km south of Darwin and near Pine Creek in the Northern Territory. The company has completed all drill pads, and the fully permitted 20-hole program will include both reverse circulation and diamond drilling techniques. Two primary targets are set for investigation: the Vesper EM prospect, characterized by four large, shallow geophysical anomalies supported by an 8km-long copper MMI soil anomaly, and the Quantum target, where a historic rare earth element (REE) discovery noted 50 meters at 1.55% TREO and an even higher grade in a 12-meter section. The project leverages substantial historical and geophysical data, including insights from a SkyTEM survey conducted in late 2023, and integrates gravity and aeromagnetic gradients to map key fault systems. These structural indicators, especially the alignment of long NNW-SSE trending faults and intersecting NE-SW faults, underscore the potential for significant mineralisation. The proximity of the project to the Fenton Shear Zone and the Hayes Creek Fault points to a complex mineral system where the REE-Au mineralisation and copper anomalies may be interconnected. Drilling activities are expected to continue through the 2025 exploration season, with the first diamond drill hole at Fenton South already completed and en route to the laboratory for assay testing. The company plans to keep the market updated on drilling progress and assay results as its exploration efforts progress concurrently in Guinea and the Northern Territory. Investors might view the news with a bullish outlook given the company’s strategic exploration approach, solid permitting status, and the targeting of multiple high-potential anomalies. Moreover, the integration of advanced geophysical techniques and a robust regional geological understanding adds confidence for future discoveries. Conversely, the early stage of the drill program and pending assay results may temper optimism among those wary of exploration risks inherent in early-stage projects.
