Chilwa Minerals Limited reports robust sonic drilling results at its Bimbi deposit, revealing high heavy mineral grades. The promising data will feed into a revised Mineral Resource Estimate due by late June 2025, bolstering the company’s exploration progress across Lake Chilwa’s deposits.

Chilwa Minerals Limited has announced promising heavy mineral assay results from its sonic drilling program at the Bimbi Deposit in southern Malawi. The company received assays from 1,359 samples across 207 drillholes, with significant intercepts recorded at the surface including intervals of 2.4m at 13.6% THM, 2.9m at 12.3% THM, and several others showing notable total heavy mineral percentages. The Bimbi Deposit, situated in the centre of the extensive Lake Chilwa western shore deposits and part of the broader Chilwa Critical Minerals Project, exhibits consistent geological features similar to other strandline deposits with coarser sand at the surface underlain by silty-sand and basal clay. These results will be incorporated into a revised Mineral Resource Estimate expected by the end of June 2025. The current inferred resource for the combined Bimbi and Northeast Bimbi deposits stands at 8.7 million tonnes at 3.5% THM, including a higher grade component of 2.6 million tonnes at 5.3% THM for the Bimbi portion. The improved core recovery from sonic drilling has allowed for more robust deposit modelling, a factor that bodes well for subsequent scoping and feasibility studies supported by expert consultants. Further exploration work continues at nearby targets such as Mpyupyu Flats and Namasalima, with additional drillholes underway and nearly 400 more awaiting assay results. The rigorous technical approach, including adherence to industry-standard QAQC protocols and the use of advanced drilling techniques, has enhanced confidence in both the sample integrity and the emerging resource picture. From an investor sentiment perspective, there is a bullish view anchored on the technical progress and potential for significant resource upgrades, suggesting the company’s systematic exploration efforts might unlock further value. On the other hand, a bearish view would point to the typical risks associated with early-stage resource development, such as delays in assay completions and the uncertainties inherent in transitioning exploration results into proven economic reserves. Overall, the announcement indicates a strong technical foundation that appeals to traders looking for growth opportunities in the critical minerals sector.
